Wisconsin’s leading mail house relies on the Phillipsburg Mark II to meet customer commitments

Suttle-Straus provides its customers with a complete range of document management solutions from digital document storage to printing and mailing. In 2005 Suttle-Straus mailed over 45 million mailpieces on behalf of its customers.  After experimenting with multiple inserter technologies, including the Pitney Bowes Flowmaster, Suttle-Straus now uses Bell and Howell's Phillipsburg Mark II inserter system exclusively.

Consistency is king

Suttle-Straus’ number one priority is meeting or exceeding customer expectations. Once a service level agreement is defined, the team responsible  has a laser-like focus on meeting the deadline at the highest level of quality. “To consistently deliver on our promises we needed equipment that gives us peace of mind, stated Brett Keene, Manager of Mailing and Digital Imaging at Suttle-Straus. “With our Phillipsburg Mark II inserters we know exactly what we will yield every day, for every job, and for every application.”

Suttle-Straus evaluated a number of inserter technologies, including a head-to-head comparison against  Flowmaster. But after evaluating all equipment against a long check list, the Phillipsburg Mark II came out on top. “The others did not make the grade.” said Keene. “The Mark II did not win every category, but when we added everything up it won the day, hands down.”

Preemptive service strikes

Suttle-Straus has chosen to employ Bell and Howell's award winning service team to keep their inserters up and running. Mr. Keene has been amazed by the level of service he has received.

“They are not only responsive when called, they call us first!” said Keene. Their expectations were exceeded when the service team didn’t stop at basic operator training. The service technician helps set up jobs and makes himself available to support time-critical runs.

“The only brand we need”

The Phillipsburg Mark II inserter system is based on the same underlying technology that powers thousands of Bell and Howell inserters worldwide. However, a number of design improvements now provide enhanced material processing control and increased net throughputs.

Material capacity has increased for each insert station, enabling the stacking of inserts up to 18 inches. Additional insert stations can be configured as backup stations which allow an operator to load the same insert in several stations.

Suttle-Straus’ Phillipsburg Mark II inserter system consists of a six-enclosure station base, the expandable JETControl operating system, and a high-capacity on-edge output conveyor. Mr. Keene is planning to add reading capabilities to the machine. The simple upgradeability of the Phillipsburg Mark II inserter system will allow them to add functionality as their business needs dictate. Based on their future growth plans they have also decided to add another Phillipsburg Mark II.

Keene declared that “We will not consider any other brand. Together, Suttle-Straus and Bell and Howell have a long and very productive future.”
